This distributor of electrical items needed an evaluation of their 350,000 sq. ft. distribution center before making a strategic change in the sourcing of their products. In planning for substantial growth, the company asked Distribution Design for an Operational Audit that included an on-site audit of processes and substantial data analyses. The Distribution Design recommendations explained how to improve utilization of the existing sortation system, achieve higher productivity, and handle the increased growth while maintaining the current ten-hour shift for picking and shipping. In addition, Distribution Design provided a “second opinion” design to improve a new rack layout proposed by an equipment vendor.
